DIY Series 89: Pensonic Table Fan

Pensonic Table Fan (Motor Malfunction)

Symptoms:

  • Fan is not rotating at all, suspect either CBB61 capacitor broken or thermal fuse burnt.

Findings:

  • Found the CBB61 capacitor (1.5uF) is below 1.0uF, and the motor was burnt.

Photos:

  1. Dismantle the back housing, changed CBB61 capacitor, motor is still not working. Check the motor, the motor was burnt.
  2. Found an OEM Bush Motor (attached with 1.5uF CBB61 capacitor) and purchased online
  3. New OEM Motor is having only 4 wires (no Earth/GND wire included)
  4. Dismantle the housing, connected the OEM Motor, found out it is actually slightly shorter than expected, minor modification is need on back housing and blade (slot hole)
  5. Connect 3 wires to Speed Selector (according to OEM Motor wiring colour) and Neutral (N) wire, added an Earth/GND (E) wire directly from 13A plug to OEM Motor metal chassis

Video:
  • Pensonic Table Fan is working after replaced with the OEM Motor

Tools required:
  • Screwdriver (for dismantling the fan motor housing - front and back)
  • Wiring tape (for sealing the wiring joint)
  • Filer (for making the blade slot hole deeper)
  • Scissor (for cutting the back housing shorter)
Cost involved:
  • OEM Bush Motor = US$4 ~ US$7
