Hi, may I know how do u travel to Ayerweng? Also do u need vehicle insurance to go in?
Good day.
I drove to Ayerweng (https://goo.gl/maps/4GMjTbifQM2pGZYz8) on my own Proton Exora. Journey from Betong city to Ayerweng is about 1 hour, however the slope is steep at certain area (especially before Ayerweng), so please drive carefully. Remember to bring along your passport when you are on the road from Betong city towards Ayerweng, there is a checkpoint when you are leaving Betong area, you are required to show your passport to the armed forces.
Within Betong city / surrounding area, vehicle insurance is not needed. As for Ayerweng (roughly 45km from border), as long as you are still within 50km radius from Malaysia-Thai border, insurance is not necessary. For my case, I didn't buy vehicle insurance.
For border crossing procedures, you might refer to http://gr8place2go.blogspot.com/2018/06/malaysia-thailand-border-crossing-by.html for details.
Hope this will help.
