DIY Series 78: National Wall Fan Unable to Swing

National Wall Fan Unable to Swing

The "National" brand of fans, formerly a prominent brand under Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd., was gradually phased out in Asia and rebranded as "Panasonic" to unify the company's global brand.

The "National" brand was a major brand used by Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd. (now Panasonic) for various products, including fans.

In the 2000s, Matsushita decided to unify its global brands under the "Panasonic" name, leading to the gradual phasing out of the "National" brand in Asia in 2004.

This National Wall fan was bought since year 1999, it had been used for more than 26 years. There might be no more spare parts available for the fan, thus I am trying to fix it without any parts involved.

Symptom:

  • Wall fan unable to swing left / right although trying to control it via the pull string

  2. The swing mechanism gear is no longer working properly. Use the cable ties to fix the swing mechanism gear at a permanent locked condition
  3. The swing mechanism gear no longer can shift up / down when pull string is triggered

  • Final Solution: The wall fan permanently operates in swing mode, regardless of whether the pull string trigger it up / down
