New TNB Electricity Tariff Restructuring (w.e.f. 01-Jul-2025) & ToU Application

[ Note: Info taken from TNB website for personal reference only ]

The Electricity Tariff Restructuring takes effect from 1 July 2025. It is tailored to shift the nation’s mindset about their energy consumption towards embracing sustainability and energy efficiency as part of facilitating the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR).

This is achieved by making your electricity bill more transparent and helping you understand better where your money goes to keep the lights on for everyone. As a customer, you are empowered with more control over your energy usage and spending.

ToU (Time-of-Use) Tariff Expansion

  • Time-of-Use (ToU) is a scheme that provides flexibility for customers to change their electricity usage pattern and take advantage of lower tariff rate during Off-Peak Hours to enjoy savings on their monthly bill.

  • Electricity rates are higher during Peak Hours due to high demand, while lower rates are applied during Off-Peak Hours to encourage usage when demand is low.

Smart Meter required for ToU Application?

TNB Time of Use (ToU) tariff is not exclusively for customers with smart meters. While smart meters are required for some customers to access the ToU tariff, it is also available to those with other types of meters like Current Transformer (CT) or Remote Meter Reading (RMR) meters. Additionally, TNB has expanded the ToU scheme to include all registered customers, regardless of whether they have a smart meter or not.

Customers with smart meters can typically switch to the ToU tariff more easily, with faster processing times for activation (5 working days). It take up to 2 months for non-smart meters ToU application.

Registered customers may switch their tariff contract to the Time-of-Use (ToU) structure via the following channels:
